i recently depolyed a few hundred bullet devices ,2.4 and 5.8 as a wireless mesh in a downtown for cameras for the local police dept

they are now asking for a back up link <backhaul> to the station
i noticed on the bullet 5 that there is a 4.9 public safety band as an option
since this is for the police ,i can use it all day long with their paperrwork
has ubiquiti tested this frequency as this would save me money and time
here is the link to the press release

videoalarm, congratulations on that. Check the link, it doesn't seem to be working. Anything you write up on that would be appreciated.

1) You stated that you are using mesh. If so, which mesh firmware or are you using AirOS?
2) Are you using SNMP and/or Dude for monitoring?
3) What is the maximum hops to a gateway that you have?
4) How much bandwidth are you using for video and what kind of frame rates/resolution/compression are you using?
5) Are you using the 5.8GHz for backhaul?
6) What antennas are you using with the Bullets?

As for the bullet in 4.9GHz, it's not certified. There are 2 mask certifications and the bullet doesn't qualify in either yet. That being said, if the bullet 5 can pass a low-power mask certification or even better, the bullet 5HP can qualify for a high-power mask certification, I would be willing to share the cost and labor of that process. However, it's going to have to be certified with specific antennas.

this link may work better for the video

we are using a mix match of wireless manufactures for different parts of the city
most of my units are set up as clients with either a tropos wireless or alvarion or motorolla systems
one of their links went down for a short periode and was not acceptable to the client
i can get the 4.9 passed by fcc with ubnt s help but paperwork is hard to get from them as i understand
we may have to use the extreme 4 card but size is a concern
we currently have the cameras in 4cif at 30fps with a 1.5 mbs link
the axis 233 camera is great for compression

Very cool. Were you guys the principal contractor?

We did the traffic cams and traffic light management system in Glendale around the Glendale Stadium for the Super Bowl (still running) and we have 2 other cities, one with about 55 cameras and another with 25 cameras over 100 square miles. My goal would be a total Ubiquiti deployment which I'm working on with some cities now. Considering the cost, it's getting close to a no-brainer.

On the 4.9GHz stuff, I know the modules are used in other products like SkyPilot so getting the certs is just going to be a paperwork process. Let me know if I can help with that. I would also be very interested. This is one place that SkyPilot has an advatage with $600 4.9GHz client radios.

If you are running 4CIF at 30fps, I'm assuming you are running MPEG-4. What compression level are you using? We use mostly 232D+ cameras for PTZ.

Good job!

Hello,

At this time we do not have plans for a Bullet 4.9.

Thanks,

Mike

If you make any 4.9GHz self-contained radio in any format, put me down. That would open up huge Public Safety markets.
