I think it would be entirely possible to port m0n0wall and pfSense to the RouterStation platform, as it is built for embedded operation, and was originally designed to run on Soekris WRAP platforms (233-266 MGHz Geode style processors, before AMD bought it). m0n0wall will run on systems as lowly at 64 mb of ram, although more is always better.
Are there any plans to move RouterStation up to 256 or 512 mb of ram? One of the biggest limitations on any router platform is the size of the state table you can hold at any one time. Low memory = small state table, low connection count.

Hello,
At this time we have no plans to increase the ram size, however I will pass this suggestion along to my hardware team.
Thanks,
Mike

I've ran a full Debian install from a memory stick on the ASUS Deluxe router. This is all possible using a custom Openwrt Kernel that boots the debian image. The routerstation is Mips so it should be exactly the same. If I can run a complete Debian install with a 200mhz cpu, 32mb ram, 4mb flash, and 4 gig memory stick the routerstation should have no problem doing what you need. I mean, heck my old Xbox with less cpu and same amount of ram as the routerstation runs a full Xebian Server. I need to get with the guys over at Debian on Asus and see if they can make this happen.

Pfsense on a routerstation/ pro would be a major hit with me :)

M0n0wall and pFsense have generic drivers for atheros, so the performance would be affected. In fact that all wireless systems have problems with drivers
