We are currently deploying a olsr-based mesh network and we are looking for the best hardware for our needs.

Nanostations are great but they don't include olsr routing protocol. I was wondering if there is any way to compile it with the SDK. I would be very pleased if someone could give advise on this.

Alternatively, we could use OpenWrt but I could not figure how to upgrade the software via web interface. I've found a binary file called fwupdate.real in the SDK which I suppose is used to upgrade the soft. It is possible directly under OpenWrt? Could you give us the source code to build it for an OpenWrt environment?

Thanks and many many congratulations for this great piece of hardware

You can find the code and a compiled image for the NS5 here: https://wiki.graz.funkfeuer.at/UbntStations

I have compiled it for the NS2, but haven't really tested it. The image is here: http://bmoffitt.com/files/XS2.ar2316.v3.2.SDK.090102.2327.bin

If you try it, let me know how it works.

Hello,

I tested the image (NS5) a little while ago, but I have not had satisfactory results.
I had problems with route on one station connected (3 in total).
Our network is comprised of 69 access point OLSR (Freifunk, linksys 2,4Ghz).

Yesterday I compiled a version of OpenWRT (trunk) by adding luci and OLRSR.
I think test it within a week.

The main problem is firmware ubiquity dont support adhoc mode.
This is the reason to try OpenWRT.

It's impossible to put madwifi in adhoc mode in the gui, but can't you do it directly via the config files/ command line?

I had assumed the firmware package containing the olsrd daemon would have done that automagically (but I haven't checked).

I think we can not switch to adhoc mode by command line as Ubiquité said that can not do (maybe only gui).

If some guys of Ubiquiti reads this thread. Is this possible?

I test openwrt soon to see if it goes adhoc!

PS) OLSR does not change the interface mode.

I think, it is possible switching to adhoc mode trough command line, but it should be not so easy. In other hand, because ubnt doesn't support adhoc mode officially, even turning on adhoc mode trough command line - it still can be very unstable :(
