$200 to $500,00 is a starting point estimate.

Posing that sort of question indicates (to me at least), you are still at least two or three years away from spending any money.

Have you done any path loss and Fresnel studies? Examined pricing points? Looked for backbone providers? Have a copy of the communications rules and regulations for your country? Local building codes? Any competition?

I'd retain a consultant that can do all that for you. Figure on at least $10,000 for a non-refundable feasibility study. A better idea would be to start slow and find someone that can spend a few hours working with you (figure $300 per hour) to get you started.

We started as just a computer whiz kid and a dad who wanted something faster. It was $12,000 and 3 years later before we first successful link from town to the tower to our house. After running that for about a month, we started adding customers. And then just as everything was looking good, it all turned upside down... it was a rough road at times.

Now I could start the same thing on $3,500 in 2 weeks, and avoid many problems. What does that mean? It IS WORTH SPENDING money on someone who knows what they're doing. I could have had someone from another WISP come out with all the equipment we needed, spend a couple of days with me for maybe another $1,000 a day. I would have saved BIG money and years, i mean years, of playing around frustrated.

I just helped a friend set up a WISP several towns away. I gave him a $2,200 purchase list, walked him thru purchasing backbone connectivity, spent 3 days erecting a 120 foot tower and setting up the radios. He now has a better system than we do, just because it was a well planned system. and he only had an outlay of $3,500

The only downside is he has not learned what I have, and is dependent on me for every little problem. So I guess you can have a affordable system that you cannot run, or spend 10 grand a a good education!

Did that $2,200 price list include that 120 ft. tower?

I'm kinda new to this myself, I've been searching for towers lately...I've come across usedtowers dot com. seems like a good place. all depends how far you wanna travel to get one. As for looking locally I would try mobile communication company in your area, sometimes they have some. I've posted a few wanted ads in my local classified magazines and got results.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will pipe in here...WHT ...MaximumISP.

IIt took me two trips to haul a 180 ft. Rohn 25 in the back of my El Camino back in '74. I've loaded an entire tower in the 8 ft. bed of my other trucks.

A small U-Haul trailer would do the trick if you have to drive a few hours to get the tower.
